Women's Basketball knocks off Dallas Christian

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team improved to 11-8 on the campaign and 7-3 against opponents outside of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) with a victory at Dallas Christian College on Tuesday evening. The Lady Crusaders ended a three-game losing slide in the triumph as the team used 16 players overall in the 81-67 decision.

Dallas etched the first five points on the board from a trifecta by Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and jumper by Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) in the beginning minute of the affair. The senior duo tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively, to complete a quintet of scorers to reach double figures. It is the second time this season UD has accomplished the feat, with the other occurring on New Year's Day versus Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College.

The Navy and White never trailed in the contest, and would open its first double-digit advantage just over five minutes into the frame after sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) sank a shot from downtown. That trey was in the midst of a 10-0 run for the Lady Crusaders, which them to a 17-4 lead with 14:28 until intermission.

At halftime Dallas held a 39-27 edge. The road squad shot 36.8-percent from the floor in the half and 8-of-10 from the free throw line. A 16 point difference was the largest margin for University of Dallas in the stanza.

With the first nine unanswered points in the second half going towards the Navy and White, it appeared the momentum would remain on that side of the court throughout the remainder.

The Lady Crusaders opened its greatest edge of the night 55-29 with 14:07 in regulation, and duplicated the 27-point range as sophomore Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) responded to a Dallas Christian three-pointer with one of her own. The sophomore guard notched a team-high 13 points with two field goals coming from beyond the arc.

DCC was resilient closing the final 10 minutes of the game on a 26-17 stretch and would barely be outmatched 42-40 in the scoring category for the second frame. The Crusaders cut things to nine with 2:45 remaining on a put-back from Taylor Takela, but UD secured the victory in the ensuing possessions.

The Navy and White outshot the opposition 40.9-percent to 38.2-percent in field goals. Dallas also posted shooting percentages from three-point land and the charity stripe at 35.3 and 72.4 clips.

Stoia was right behind Gendron, who paced the five Lady Crusaders in scoring, by contributing 12 points. Freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) rounded out the unit with 10 points. The forward pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds and Hagemann also added six boards.

Dallas Christian placed a trio of players in double-digits for scoring led by Sapora Richard. She claimed a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, each counting towards a game-high. Her seven steals were impressive contributing to the 20 the Crusaders swiped from the Navy and White.

Hannah Foley and Taylor tossed in 17 and 10 points, respectively. The Red and White struggled shooting 16.7-percent from three-point territory and 48-percent in free throws.
