Women's Basketball tops Centenary on Friday to end slide

SHREVEPORT, La. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (8-5, 2-2 SCAC) ended a three-game losing streak on Friday at Centenary College (0-15, 0-5 SCAC). The final score was 77-60, as UD forced 16 first half turnovers in the opening half to build a 35-19 edge at intermission.

From the opening tip, it was a low-scoring back-and-forth affair, as the two squads battled to an 11-all result through the midway point of the stanza. Dallas heated up the pressure and forced a 17-5 run to go ahead with 3:22 remaining in the half. The Navy and White would close the final 10 minute stretch with a 24-8 display.

Centenary posted the first trio of points in the second frame, but UD countered with six unanswered to build its largest edge at that point 41-22. The road team would eventually open its greatest lead of the night by 27 with 8:29.

The Lady Crusaders placed three players in double figures led by senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) with 13 points. Right behind the forward were freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) and senior Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) chipping in 11 and 10, respectively.

It was a team effort tonight for Dallas as 12 different members of the squad marked the scoring category.

UD out-rebounded the Ladies 48-45 and were led by DeCoud with a team-high eight rebounds, while Hagemann pulled down six. Senior Chelsea Cole (Mission, Texas), and Freshmen Jessica Foster (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Helen Onyenso (Oak Park, Ill.) formed a trio that added five.

The Maroon and White did shoot 41.1-percent from the field while Dallas connected on 36.2-percent.

Brianna Edwards led posted a game-high 15 points for the Ladies. Completing the unit of double-digit scorers were Haley Deshautelle and Rebecca Thompson with 12 apiece.
