Women's Basketball unable to keep up with Trinity

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (7-5, 1-2 SCAC) took a 66-58 setback on Saturday versus Trinity University (11-1, 2-0 SCAC). Dallas has dropped its last three games in a row, including back-to-back conference contests. The Tigers increase their winning streak to 11-straight.

After exchanging the first two layups, Trinity went on an 11-2 run over the first four minutes of the opening stanza. Dallas kept the deficit single-digits during the next span of plays and would tie things 17-17 with 8:01 after scoring eight unanswered points.

A Hannah Coley three-pointer with 7:40 remaining was the first field goal for TU since a jumper was made by Maria Protic about six minutes prior.

The Crusaders took their first lead of the affair on a trifecta from senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) to put the home squad up 25-22 with 5:52 until halftime. Coley responded with a trey of her own and the Tigers regained the edge on a jumper from Bryony Harris a couple possessions later.

The Navy and White evened the contest one more time, but would trail 30-27 at intermission.

In the second frame, TU garnered the early momentum pushing its advantage to as many as eight. Dallas nipped at the margin and would be within a point, 43-42, after senior Marleyna Bustamante sank a pair of free throws with 11:08.

A 21-6 scoring span for the road squad over the next seven minutes lifted the Tigers to a 16-point lead; their largest of the contest. Despite a UD cutting the disadvantage to seven with 37 seconds on the second of two free throws from Hagemann, the margin was too far.

Trinity outshot the Lady Crusaders 45.3-percent to 26.5-pecent from the field in the game. Dallas was 4-of-22 from behind the three-point arc, while the Tigers produced a 47.6-shooting clip. The teams were nearly even in rebounds, as TU grabbed one more and gathered a 45-44 edge.

UD did force 20 turnovers compared to giving up 10 and benefited from 23 second chance points.

Leading the Lady Crusaders with a double-double 17 points and career-best 14 rebounds was freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument Colo.). It's the third time this season the forward has matched her career-high in scoring and first to meet the mark at the Maher Athletic Center.

Hagemann was slightly behind with 16 points and added seven rebounds to complete the duo of double figure scoring performers for Dallas. Sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) chipped in nine points.

Trinity was paced by Coley, who displayed a game-high 19 points. Anecia Richardson earned a double-double with 10 points and rebounds. Bryony Harris would also pull down 10 boards.
