Women's Basketball unable to overcome Hendrix on Monday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (7-3) were unable to overcome Hendrix College (5-7) Monday night at the Maher Athletic Center, falling 63-57. Dallas tallied its first setback of the campaign at home and ended a season-best, four-game winning streak. The Warriors improved to 2-0 against UD, taking a win at each home venue this year.

From the opening tip, both teams would trade leads a few times before Hendrix scored seven unanswered to go ahead 12-6 just under six minutes into the affair. The Lady Crusaders chipped away and would go in front about five minutes later on a three-pointer from senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.).

HC would rattle off another run, this time six points in a row to lift them in front 22-16 with six and a half minutes until the break. A few possessions later Dallas would trail by its largest margin at the time, 28-18, and then close the frame on a 9-3 stretch.

Trailing 31-28 to begin the second stanza, the road team pushed an 11-1 run throughout the early portion of the half. With about 12:55 left, the Lady Crusaders mustered six points in a row to cut the deficit to 44-39.

After another quick counter from the orange and black, UD nipped things to a pair of points with eight and a half minutes in regulation. The squads exchanged baskets the next three minutes before the Lady Crusaders tied things 53-all. It was the first time Hendrix did not lead since trailing 6-5 to start the first four minutes of the contest.

Dallas would tie things one more time as the two each scored a basket, but HC raced to a 4-0 run in the final 1:32 after Hagemann nipped the margin, 59-57, with a layup.

A trio of Lady Crusaders claimed double figure scoring performances as both top shooters came from the bench. The pair were sophomore Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas) and freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) with 14 apiece. Hagemann rounded out the unit with 13.

DeCoud notched her second double-double of her rookie career with a team-high 10 rebounds. Hagemann pulled down seven.

Hendrix was led offensively by Sara Dyslin with 14 points. Anna King totaled a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The Warriors shot 45.8-percent and outrebounded UD 42-39. The navy and white were limited to 34.3-percent from the field, but did force HC into 16 turnovers and held a 21-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
