New Hope Christian College gets past Women's Basketball on Friday

EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (3-2) fell short 79-72 on Friday night versus New Hope Christian College. Dallas searches for its first road win on Saturday as the team remains in Oregon and will face Linfield College.

The Lady Crusaders were outshot 44.8-percent to 33.3-percent by NHCC in the contest, and UD went cold posting a 24.3 clip from the floor in the second stanza compared to 40 percent by the opposition.

It was a back-and-forth affair throughout the first half; with both teams exchanging leads a couple of times. A couple free throws in the closing moment prior to intermission put the Deacons in front 41-40.

After an early basket by the navy and white to begin the second, New Hope Christian rattled off six unanswered points in a row to gain an early edge the first four minutes through the frame. Freshman Jessica Foster's (Oklahoma City, Okla.) layup with about 12 minutes to go in regulation nipped the deficit to 52-50, and would spark the momentum for the road squad to take the lead moments later.

With a slight 62-61 advantage, the Lady Crusaders were unable to halt a 9-0 stretch by the home team, and that swing in control resulted in the final scoreboard. Dallas did not go quietly, forcing a couple turnovers from full court pressure and benefited from a few miscues by NHCC.

However, UD never recovered and got as close as five before the Deacons wrapped this game up at the free throw line. An interesting stat of the night was both squads produced a 19-of-23 effort from the charity stripe.

Freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.) notched her first personal double-double with career-highs in points and rebounds with 17 and 10, respectively. Those pair of double figure categories also were team-leaders on the evening.

Matching her season-best 12 points for the third time on the campaign was sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.), and rounding out the quartet of double-digit scorers were seniors Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas) and Brooke Hangemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) with 10 apiece.

The navy and white did grab a slight edge on the boards with a team, season-high 51 compared to 48. The Lady Crusaders did force more turnovers 24-16, and benefited from 19 points off of them and held a 27-17 edge in second chance points.

New Hope Christian was paced by Jess Logan with a game-high 25 points going 8-of-15 from the field and posted a 7-for-14 mark behind the three-point arc. She also claimed a double-double with 11 rebounds for the Deacons.

Mariah Mendez Oliver contributed 13, while Kenzie Weston and Sasha Sims chipped in 11 and 10, respectively.
