Women's Basketball drops first contest of Campaign at Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Dallas women's basketball team (2-1) fell 75-66 at Hendrix College (2-3) on Sunday afternoon. It was the first setback on the campaign for Dallas, who was outdone by a strong first half shooting performance from the Warriors.

HC posted a 44.4 shooting percentage in the opening stanza compared to the Lady Crusader's 33.3 and led 40-27 heading into halftime.

The navy and white got off to a quick start posting an 8-2 run which involved consecutive three-pointers from sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) and senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.). It was the largest advantage Dallas would gain in the contest, and was only time the road squad led.

Hendrix rattled off 13 unanswered points to cut the deficit and shift the momentum throughout the majority of the affair. Hagemann ended the streak with a free throw with 11:05 minutes left.

In an uncharacteristic first half for UD, who entered outscoring foes 81-40 in the first 20 minutes of a contest this season; were cold hitting shots from the field. Sophomore Holly Tonry's (Seattle, Wash.) layup with 8:47 remaining was the first field goal the team hit since Hagemann's trifecta just under 10 minutes ago.

Despite the woeful scoring, the navy and white nipped at the margin pulling within as many as four on a couple of occasions. The Warriors stayed poised with a 20-16 edge with 7:41 to go in the half, and increased the distance with a 7-0 run.

Dallas managed a 5-0 streak of its own, before the home squad closed the final four and half minutes of the frame on a 13-6 stretch.

The Lady Crusaders were unable to shift the tide until about midway through the second half. Down by its largest deficit of the contest at 18, Dallas climbed back into the game narrowing things in single digits with 6:44 minutes left.

HC halted the run and would trade baskets down the remainder of the contest, and the navy and white would leave the court with a setback on its first game away from the Maher Athletic Center.

Hagemann had a stellar performance notching a double-double with season-highs in points and rebounds with 24 and 12, respectively. A trio of Lady Crusaders clinched double figures in scoring with 10 points. Those included were: sophomore Sammi Tso (Las Vegas, Nev.), freshman Michelle DeCoud (Monument, Colo.), and Tonry.

Adding seven boards for the team was DeCoud and Stoia chipped in seven points in the game.

Hendrix held a 49-33 advantage on the glass, but UD forced 16 turnovers compared to 13 and boasted 18 points off the opposition's miscues.

Sara Dyslin paced the orange and black with 17 points and contributed 12 rebounds. She was one of two players for HC to claim a double-double as Anna King tallied 11 points and a game-high 13 boards. Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler rounded out the double figure scoring trio with 13 and Peyton Hurst was just shy tossing in eight.
