Women's Basketball remains unbeaten after Saturday's win

IRVING, Texas –The University of Dallas women's basketball team (2-0) defeated University of the Ozarks (2-1) 78-60 on Saturday afternoon to claim both contests in the Dallas Tip-off Classic. The pair of victories for Dallas also maintained the squad's unblemished status to begin the early campaign.

For the second day in a row, the Lady Crusaders utilized a strong shooting first half to muster a comfortable halftime advantage.

After keeping things close in the beginning moments of the opening stanza, Dallas pushed a two-point edge to double-digits after outscoring the opposition 17-7 with 6:26 left on the clock before the break. The home team eventually posted its largest advantage of the day at 20, with was the total at intermission, 40-20.

UD shot slightly better in the first half, 30 to 29 percent, but forced Ozarks into 14 miscues in that frame alone. The navy and white benefited from 26 points off turnovers in the entire game.

In the second half, the Eagles nipped at the deficit gradually and began shifting momentum towards the latter portion of the frame. The narrowest the Ozarks managed to get within was nine a couple of occasions with less than five minutes left on the clock.

Dallas dissolved any comeback effort with 11-straight points to secure the team's non-conference affair.

A quartet of UD players cracked double-digits in scoring led by sophomore Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) with a game-high 18 points. Joining the guard was sophomore Lindsey Gendron (Houston, Texas), who chipped in 13 for the Lady Crusaders. Senior Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma State, Okla.) also contributed 13.

Sophomore Seana Stoia (Tulsa Okla.) rounded out the big scoring unit with 12 total points.

Tonry was a rebound shy of a double-double, and posted a game-best nine boards.

Dallas was outshot barely 32 to 31 percent in the entire contest.
