Holly Tonry named 2013-14 @SCAC_Sports Women's Basketball 'Newcomer of the Year'

SAN ANTONIO - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) has announced University of Dallas freshman guard Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) as the 2013-14 SCAC Women's Basketball Newcomer-of-the-Year.

This honor comes for the Tonry, following a 14-13 (5-9 SCAC) season by the Lady Crusaders.

Head coach Jina Johansen's squad entered the 2013-14 SCAC Championship Tournament as the No. 6 seed.

The navy and white defeated No. 6 seed Southwestern University by a score of 66-58 in the SCAC quarterfinals, before falling 60-54 to host-school Trinity University in the semifinals.

Tonry finished her rookie campaign with a team-high 109 assists, which was second-best in the league.

She also notably had 48 steals (fifth), a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio (14th), a 69.9 free-throw percentage (17th) and 65 converted free throws (19th).

The 5-foot-5 Tonry ended the season with 213 points (fourth on Dallas) and 90 rebounds (fifth on Dallas) as a starter in 22-of-27 games.
