@UDallasWBB perseveres past Millsaps (MS), 68-64

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (4-1) is unbeaten in four-consecutive games, following a 68-64 victory over Millsaps College (4-3) on Saturday afternoon at the Maher Athletic Center.

The Lady Majors' Velvet Johnson sent both teams into the break knotted 30-30 after she stole the ball and knocked-down a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the first-half.

There were 10 lead changes in the tightly-contested affair, including eight in the second-half.

With 33 seconds remaining in the contest, freshman guard Holly Tonry (Seattle, Wash.) made the front-end of a pair of free throws for the Lady Crusaders to square the game 64-64.

Tonry finished with nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 29 minutes of play.

Johnson hoisted a 3-pointer on Millsaps' ensuing possession that did not fall, and junior forward Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla.) snared a crucial defensive rebound for Dallas.

With the shot clock turned-off, Hagemann was fouled with 15 seconds left. She sank both attempts from the charity stripe to put Dallas in front 66-64.

Hagemann recorded seven points, seven rebounds (two offensive), four assists, three blocks and a steal in 29 minutes on the court.

Head coach Jina Johansen's squad dug-down defensively and proceeded to force the Lady Majors into a turnover after consecutive timeouts.

Freshman post Seana Stoia (Tulsa, Okla.) put the game on ice when she netted a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining to give the Lady Crusaders a four-point win.

Stoia tallied 10 points, four rebounds (one offensive) and two assists in 22 minutes of play.

The only other Dallas student-athlete to enter double-figures, senior post Christy Allen (Burton, Mich.), ended with a double-double, which included 12 points, 10 rebounds (seven offensive), two assists and two steals in 31 minutes of action.

Kala Freeman's 16 points for Millsaps led all scorers, while her teammates Beverly Holmes and Sam Perez contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Both teams made 15 free throws apiece, and the Lady Crusaders held advantages in rebounds (41-29), second-chance points (23-11) and bench points (26-3). Their counterpart took points-off-turnovers (23-8).
