Women's Basketball rallies, Yoshimura makes history in 59-55 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (3-1) celebrated a 59-55 victory Saturday evening over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (CMSC), and senior guard Kylie Yoshimura becoming the program's all-time career assists leader.

Yoshimura (Temple City, Calif.) needed three assists to tie Kristy Malone's previous mark of 442, and accomplished one better at 9:42 of the second-half. She finished with six assists in 37 minutes.

Not to be overshadowed was the fact Yoshimura recorded a game-high 17 points, helping Dallas overcome a 27-21 halftime deficit to defeat CMSC (1-3).

The Lady Crusaders converted on just 6-of-33 (18.2 percent) from the field in the initial half, but ramped things up in the second to 12-of-26 (46.2 percent) shooting.

With 10:38 remaining in regulation, CMSC claimed a game-high 13-point lead, but the Lady Stags soon thereafter went ice-cold from the floor.

Sparked by junior post Christy Allen (Burton, Mich.), Dallas deposited 14 unanswered-points over the next 6:21 to grab their first scoreboard advantage since 16:09 of the first-half. Allen ended with 12 rebounds (two offensive) and eight points in 31 minutes.

A pair of sophomore guards proved instrumental for Dallas, helping neutralize the 15-point output of CMSC's leading scorer Madeline Barnes.

Christina Kurt (Katy, Texas) guided the Lady Crusaders late, amassing eight-straight points down the stretch. In 29 minutes, Kurt totalled 11 points and five rebounds (one offensive).

Emily Madden (Torrington, Wyo.) was the team's third to enter double-figure scoring, tabulating 10 points and five rebounds (one offensive) in 27 minutes.

With a number of statistical categories proving nearly identical, Dallas gained separation at the free-throw line, netting 18-of-23 to CMSC's 9-of-17.
