Women's Basketball falls to Millsaps College (MS), 60-51, after 11-point halftime deficit; Allen nets game-high 20-points for Lady Crusaders in defeat

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (5-10, 1-6 SCAC) was defeated 60-51 by Millsaps College (Miss.) on Sunday afternoon at the Maher Athletic Center, despite Christy Allen netting a game-high 20-points for the Lady Crusaders.

Allen (Burton, Mich./St. Thomas More Academy), a 5-foot-10 sophomore post, finished the game with 10-of-15 shooting from the field and five rebounds (two offensive) in 33-minutes on the court.

Dallas led predominantly until the midway point of the first half. From the 9:14 mark, onward, the Lady Majors did not trail again. Millsaps took an 11 point, 34-23 scoreboard-advantage into halftime.

The opening-half saw Dallas shoot 36.4-percent (8-of-22), while Millsaps drained 41-4-percent (12-of-29) from the field.

Millsaps' Velvet Johnson led all scorers at the break, amassing 11 of her team-high 17-points in the first half.

In the second half, the Lady Crusaders were only able to climb to within six-points (twice) of Millsaps, with the last occurence coming with 1:41 remaining in regulation. The Lady Majors boasted a game-high 16-point lead at the 10:28 mark.

In the end, Millsaps won by nine points, 60-51. Dallas shot 44.4-percent (12-of-27) in the second half, as opposed to Millsaps' mark of 40.7-percent (11-of-27) from the field.

Some key-stats included Millsaps winning points-off-turnovers, 26-17; Millsaps controlling points-in-the-paint, 30-22, and; Millsaps holding the advantage in second-chance-points, 18-10.

Apart from Allen, no other Lady Crusader entered double-figure scoring. However, 5-foot-4 junior guard Kylie Yoshimura did have 10 assists to go with five-points in 31-minutes of play.

Dallas hits the road for the next two games, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest on Jan. 20 versus SCAC foe Oglethorpe College (Ga.) in Atlanta.
