Second-half shooting-woes cost Women’s Basketball versus Rhodes College (TN); Allen, Yoshimura star for Lady Crusaders in 66-55 defeat

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (5-9, 1-5 SCAC) was defeated 66-55 by Rhodes College (Tenn.) on Friday evening at the Maher Athletic Center, after the Lady Crusaders converted on just 13.3-percent (4-of-30) of their field-goals in the second half.

The first-half saw nine different lead-changes and a 32-31 advantage on the scoreboard by halftime for Rhodes (9-5, 3-3 SCAC).

5-foot-4 junior guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Calif./Mark Keppel H.S.) led all scorers at the break, amassing 13-points in the opening half. For the game, Yoshimura tallied a game-high 17 points, going 5-of-12 from the field, going 1-of-4 from 3-point land, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Yoshimura also had four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 37-minutes on the court.

The two teams were virtually identical from the field in the first half. Dallas netted 36.7-percent (11-of-30), while Rhodes converted on 34.4-percent (11-of-32) of their field-goal attempts in the half.

Emily Madden (Torrington, Wyo./Torrington H.S.) gave Dallas their final lead (33-32) of the game, as the 5-foot-5 freshman guard began second-half scoring at 19:31 with a jumper assisted by Yoshimura. Madden finished the game with two-points in 17-minutes off the bench.

At 12:22 of the closing half, Christy Allen (Burton, Mich./St. Thomas More Academy) drew the Lady Crusaders to within six-points of Rhodes with a jumper in the paint, but that would be the closest Dallas would come to threatening the Lady Lynx down the stretch.

The 5-foot-10 sophomore post had nine-points and nine rebounds (three offensive) in the second-half en route to recording a double-double. Allen totalled 15-points on 4-of-15 shooting from the field, and going 7-of-10 from the charity stripe. She finished with a game-high 15 rebounds (six offensive), while also managing an assist in 31-minutes of play.

Rhodes was dominant late in the contest, maintaining a double-digit lead from 11:18, onward. The Lady Lynx bouyed a game-high 14-point lead three times in the final 8:06.

In the second half, Rhodes countered Dallas' 13.3-percent (4-of-30) shooting from the field, with a mark of 41.9-percent (13-of-31) of their own.

Bench-points and points-in-the-paint proved key cogs, as Rhodes led both categories 32-16 and 32-7, respectively.

Rhodes also led the rebounding battle, 49-38.
