Women's Basketball falls short of Southwestern University, 81-67; Allen and Hagemann each record a double-double for Lady Crusaders

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (2-5, 0-3 SCAC) suffered an 81-67 road-defeat early Saturday evening to the Lady Pirates of Southwestern University.

Dallas began the game aggressively, riding the post-play of 5-foot-10 sophomore Christy Allen (Burton, Mich./St. Thomas More Academy) to jump out to an early 10-4 lead.

Allen dominated inside throughout the first half, grabbing seven rebounds and scoring 13 points. Her final stat-line included a team-high 19-points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, while netting 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Meanwhile, 14 rebounds (five offensive) gave Allen a double-double, while she also tacked-on a steal in 31-minutes of play.

5-foot-11 freshman guard Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla./Westmoore H.S.) also mustered a double-double for the Lady Crusaders. Hagemann tallied 13-points on 5-of-15 shooting from the field, including a 1-of-3 evening from 3-point range. Making 2-of-3 from the charity stripe, Hagemann notched a team-high 15 rebounds (five offensive), an assist, and two steals in 31-minutes on the court.

At halftime, Southwestern (6-4, 3-1 SCAC) led by a three point, 38-35 margin.

In the second half, the Lady Pirates pulled-away with improved passing and shooting while Dallas' offense stalled. 

The second-half saw Southwestern sink 43.6-percent (17-of-39) of their shots, while limiting the Lady Crusaders to a mark of 31.6-percent (12-of-38) from the field. 

Chelsea Leeder dominated for Southwestern, shooting 10-of-19 from the field en route to scoring a game-high 27 points.

Leading all scorers with 12 second-half points, 5-foot-4 junior guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Calif./Mark Keppel H.S.) knocked down 3-of-11 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line on the night. She also registered five rebounds, seven assists and three steals in 36-minutes on the court. 

Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas/Pharr-San-Juan-Alamo H.S.) was the fourth Dallas player to enter double-figure scoring, as the 5-foot-5 freshman guard converted on 5-of-17 from the field to tabulate 10 points. In addition, Bustamante also had three rebounds (two offensive), an assist and a block in 30-minutes of work.

Dallas will host Howard Payne University on Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Maher Athletic Center.
