Yoshimura nets game-high 15-points on road, as Women's Basketball handles Southwestern Adventist University, 66-39

KEENE, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (2-3, 0-1 SCAC) won big on the road Wednesday evening, notching a 66-39 victory over the Lady Knights of Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU) at Leiske Pultar Arena.

The Lady Crusaders were assertive from the opening tip, as 5-foot-4 junior guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Calif./Mark Keppel H.S.) scored the game's first points, a layup at 19:53 of the first half.

SWAU was able to tie the game 6-6 at the 16:23-mark of the first-half and grabbed a 15-14 advantage at 10:06, but Yoshimura's layup shortly thereafter reclaimed Dallas' lead for good.

Yoshimura recorded all of her game-high 15-points in the first half, and her final stat-line included a 5-of-9 effort from the field, netting 1-of-3 shots from beyond the arc. She converted on 4-of-6 free-throw attempts, and notched seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 30-minutes of play.

To end the first half, the Lady Crusaders outscored SWAU, 16-5. Despite a 32-20 lead at halftime, Dallas shot just 30.3-percent (10-of-33) in the opening half, while holding the Lady Knights to 27.3-percent (9-of-33) from the field. The Lady Crusaders were able to possess a 12-point lead thanks to a 10-of-14 first-half from the charity stripe, in comparison to SWAU's 1-of-5 in the category.

SWAU cut into Dallas' lead in the second half, diminishing their deficit to an eight-point margin at 18:21. This, however, proved to be the closest the Lady Knights came to threatening Dallas, as the Lady Crusaders pulled away to a 27-point victory.

From the 14:21-mark, onward, Dallas went on a scoring frenzy, sparked by 5-foot-6 freshman guard Jordon Baker's 3-pointer. To conclude the game, the Lady Crusaders were dominant down the stretch, outscoring SWAU, 30-12.

Baker's 14-points on the game were second to only Yoshimura for the game-high. Her 14-points were a result of 6-of-10 shooting from the field, including sinking 2-of-5 from 3-point range. Baker also tabulated three rebounds (two offensive) in 12-minutes of playing time.

5-foot-5 freshman guard Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas/Pharr-San-Juan-Alamo H.S.) also factored into Dallas' success. Bustamante, the third Lady Crusader to enter double-figure scoring, tallied 12-points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, while sinking 4-of-4 opportunities from the free-throw line. In 23-minutes of play, she also amassed six rebounds (two offensive) to go along with an assist, a block and a steal.

In the second half, the Lady Crusaders put home 34.2-percent (13-of-38) shots from the field, while limiting SWAU to 24.1-percent (7-of-29) shooting.

Dallas held a 61-42 advantage in the rebounding department, with 5-foot-10 sophomore post Christy Allen (Burton, Mich./St. Thomas More Academy) and 6-foot-1 freshman post Kelly Darling (Bellvue, Wa./Sammamish H.S.) combining for 18 boards. Accounting for eight points, Allen finished just shy of a double-double.
