Yoshimura contributes game-high 24 points for Lady Crusaders, but Austin College bests Women's Basketball in SCAC opener, 74-63

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (1-3, 0-1 SCAC) was defeated by Austin College on Saturday afternoon, 74-63, at the Maher Athletic Center in both teams' Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.

5-foot-4 junior guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Calif./Mark Keppel H.S.) put Dallas up 3-0 at 18:36 of the first half, with her first of two converted 3-pointers for the game. Yoshimura's final stat-line saw her register a game-high 24 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the field and a 4-of-5 effort from the charity stripe. She totaled a rebound, two assists and three steals on the afternoon in 40-minutes of play.

Soon there after, a Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas/Pharr-San-Juan-Alamo H.S.) steal and basket helped Dallas begin the game with a 5-0 advantage.

Bustamante, a 5-foot-5 freshman guard, was the second of three Lady Crusaders to finish in double-figure scoring. Bustamante notched 12-points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, while 5-foot-10 sophomore post Christy Allen (Burton, Mich./St. Thomas More Academy) put home 10-points after going 4-of-6 from the field and netting 2-of-5 free-throw attempts. Additionally, Bustamante accumulated two rebounds (one offensive), three assists and two steals in 34-minutes of game action, with Allen hauling in five rebounds (one offensive) of her own in 27 minutes.

The Lady 'Roos (1-5, 1-0 SCAC) bounced back, however, tying the game 5-5, 4:27 into the initital period. Austin College and Dallas remained close throughout the first half, which saw four different lead changes. The half ended with Dallas up 40-38. The Lady Crusaders shot 56.3-percent (18-of-32) from the field in the first half, while Austin College sank 40.7-percent (11-of-27) of their shots. A big disparity occurred at the free-throw line, with Dallas 1-of-1, and Austin College 11-of-14.

The second-half was a tightly-contested affair as well, until Angeleena Young delivered a 3-pointer at the 3:57-mark to give Austin College their largest lead at-the-time of 11-points thanks to a 5-0 run.

Playing catch-up, the Lady Crusaders could only diminish this deficit to seven points, after a pair of made free-throws from 5-foot-6 freshman guard Lauren Jumaoas (Carrollton, Texas/Newman Smith H.S.). A 1-of-4 day from the field for Jumaoas merited her five-points in 22-minutes of play. This, to go with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
