Team-effort gives Women's Basketball upper-hand over Dallas Christian College; Lady Crusaders win on road, 82-66

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (1-2) reeled-off their first victory of the 2011-12 season, with a 82-66 road effort on Tuesday evening versus Dallas Christian College (DCC).

Out of the gate, 5-foot-6 freshman guard Lauren Jumaoas (Carrollton, Texas/Newman Smith H.S.) gave Dallas a 3-0 advantage, with a made 3-pointer at the 19:21 mark of the first half.

Jumaoas finished the game with an 11-point performance, on 3-of-8 shooting from the field, with all converted field-goals being of the 3-point variety. She was a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, and recorded two-assists in 28-minutes of play.

After some teetering, Dallas started asserting their will from the 12-minute mark, onward, closing out the opening-period on a 30-13 run. At halftime, the Lady Crusaders possessed a 44-26 lead, shooting 44.4-percent (16-of-36), as opposed to DCC's 30.8-percent (8-of-26) from the field.

Dallas' 5-foot-11 freshman guard Brooke Hagemann (Oklahoma City, Okla./Westmoore H.S.) led all scorers at the break, amassing 10-points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field, while sinking both of her free-throw attempts.

In the second-half, Hagemann tacked on another four points, giving her a team-high 14 for the game in 21-minutes of game action. DCC's Jessalyn Flowers totaled a game-high 17 points, on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, along with a 7-of-7 night from the charity stripe.

In addition to Jumaoas and Hagemann, Dallas had three other players enter double-figure scoring -- 5-foot-5 freshman guard Marleyna Bustamante (Donna, Texas/Pharr-San-Juan-Alamo H.S.), 5-foot-10 sophomore post Christy Allen (Burton, Mich./St. Thomas More Academy) and 5-foot-6 freshman guard Jordon Baker (Allen, Texas/ Plano East H.S.). Bustamante netted 11 points, while Allen and Baker poured in 12-points apiece.

Of note, Allen and Baker combined for 12-rebounds in a game where Dallas controlled the boards, 46-34, with 19 offensive rebounds.

The second-half saw Dallas' bench wear down a depleted DCC roster, which was afforded just one substitute throughout the course of the game. However, depsite the Lady Crusaders leading by a game-high 26-points with 11:39 remaining in the contest, DCC battled to within 14-points with 29-seconds remaining.

Down the stretch, DCC intentionally sent Dallas to the foul-line on several occasions, but it was for not, as the Lady Crusaders acheived a 16-point victory.

In the second half, Dallas bolstered 45.5-percent (15-of-33) shooting from the field, while DCC shot 46.2-percent (12-of-26).
