Women's Basketball defeats Hendrix College, improves to .500 record

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (6-6) defeated the Hendrix College Warriors on Sunday afternoon, 59-47, and in the process have obtained a .500 record in head coach Jina Johansen's first season, having won four of their last five contests.

Sophomore guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Cali./Mark Keppel H.S.) led the Lady Crusaders with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field, including sinking 3-of-6 three-pointers attempted, and making 4-of-6 free throw opportunities on the afternoon.

Yoshimura wasn't the only Lady Crusader to impress, however, as senior forward Cara Sczepanski (Highland Village, Texas/Marcus H.S.) amassed 18 points on 6-of-15 shooting from the field, including a perfect 6-of-6 game from the charity stripe. Additionally, an 11 rebound performance -- four offensive, seven defensive -- gave Sczepanski a double double.

Senior forward/center Joirdan Cole (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch H.S.) was not to be out-shined, as she also recorded a double-double -- ten points and 11 rebounds.

At halftime, Dallas led Hendrix, 26-22. In the second half, the Lady Crusaders ramped up their defensive efforts, holding the Warriors to a mere 23.3-percent (7-of-30) shooting from the field. When all was said and done, a 43-32 rebounding advantage, helped Dallas pull away to the 12 point victory.

The Lady Crusaders will resume play when the Austin College Kangaroos travel to the Maher Athletic Center on Wednesday, Jan. 5. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
