Women's Basketball knocks off Birmingham Southern, now on winning streak

LONGVIEW, Texas - The University of Dallas women's basketball team (4-5) is now on a two-game winning streak after defeating Birmingham Southern College, on Sunday afternoon, 64-52.

After limiting Birmingham Southern to 21 points on 26.1-percent shooting in the first half, Dallas exploded offensively for 38 second-half points, shooting 50-percent from the field. 

Four Lady Crusaders combined for 57 of Dallas' points, while the team maintained a steady hand at the free throw line, sinking 21-of-28 free throws attempted.

Senior forward Cara Sczepanski (Highland Village, Texas/Marcus H.S.) and sophomore point guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Cali./Mark Keppel H.S.) led the squad in scoring with 16 a piece. Yoshimura also came up with three steals and a team-high eight assists. 

Senior forward/center Joirdan Cole (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch H.S.) contributed another 15 points, while leading Dallas with eight rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. 

Senior guard Bethany Roessler (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier) scored 10 points in addition to dishing out six assists and three steals. 

Following the holidays, the Lady Crusaders will participate in the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz. They'll play Simpson College at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 29th to begin the two-day tournament.
