Women's Basketball surges past LeTourneau

LONGVIEW, Texas - On Saturday afternoon, the University of Dallas women's basketball team (3-5) swatted down LeTourneau University, defeating the Yellow Jackets, 58-46.

During a topsy-turvy first half, which saw five lead changes, Dallas shot a mere 20.6-percent from the floor. Despite the shooting woes, the Lady Crusaders headed into the locker room trailing, 22-19, at the break.

The back-and-forth continued early in the second half, but Dallas' fortune soon turned for the better. In the latter period, the Lady Crusaders shot 43.3-percent from the field, and 66.7-percent from three-point land.

With 13:54 remaining in the tilt, Dallas took the lead for good when sophomore guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, Cali./Mark Keppel H.S.) netted her second of three made three-pointers on the afternoon. In 35-minutes of play, Yoshimura had 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field, and going 2-of-4 from the free throw line.

Dallas would see their lead swell to a game-high 14 points late into the game, when senior guard Bethany Roessler (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) was fed for a layup by freshman guard Kristy Mooring (Antonito, Colo./Casa Grade H.S.).

Cara Sczepanski (Highland Village, Texas/Marcus H.S.) had a game-high 16 points for the Lady Crusaders, shooting 5-of-17 from the field, and knocking down 6-of-8 of her free throw attempts. Additionally, the senior forward hauled in 10 rebounds, which gave her a double-double.

Speaking of rebounding, senior forward/center Joirdan Cole was a force on the boards- she grabbed 15 rebounds -- 9 offensive, 6 defensive.

The Lady Crusaders will return to the court on Sunday at 2 p.m. when they square off with Birmingham-Southern College.
