Association of Division III Independents Names 2010 All-Independent Women’s Basketball Teams

KANSAS CITY, MO – Forward Cara Sczepanski, who became the single-season rebound leader at the University of Dallas this year, was named the player of the year as the All-Independent Women's Basketball teams were announced today by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I).  

Sczepanski, a junior from Highland Village, TX, scored 529 points (18.9 per game) and grabbed 270 rebounds (9.6 per game).  She led her team to a 15-13 record, which set the school's single-season record for most victories.  In three years, she holds career records for points (1,437), three throws (418), field goals (507), and field-goal percentage (46.4 percent).  She currently ranks third on the career rebounding list with 631, including 224 offensive rebounds.

The other members of the first team include Jordan Osley (Mount Mary College); Ally Tincknell (Finlandia University); Linda Ly, Chapman University; Ashley Brown, Trinity Washington University; and Ashley McQuillan, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).  

Freshman Kylie Yoshimura from Dallas was named the AD3I rookie of the year.  Yoshimura, a guard from Temple City, CA, averaged 13.1 points (second on the team) and led the team averaging five assists per game.  She also led Dallas in three-point field goals (52) and three-point field goal percentage (34 percent). 

Dallas head coach Jennifer Fleming was named the coach of the year.  Fleming led the Crusaders to a 15-13 record and the championship game of the NEAC conference tournament (Dallas is an associate member in basketball).

The All-Independent Women's Basketball teams were selected by the women's basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 14 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in 2009-10. The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.
