Dallas Women’s Basketball Victorious Against Dallas Christian, Sczepanski Moves Up List

The University of Dallas women's basketball team used an efficient second half to run away with the win against the Crusaders from Dallas Christian College on Tuesday evening in Irving, TX. Holding a 5 point lead (32-27) at the break, UD's 36 point second half propelled them to the 11 point victory and put the team back at .500 at 12-12.

Not only did Dallas walk away with the win and the clean sweep due to defeating Dallas Christian earlier in the year, junior forward Cara Sczepanski (Highland Village, TX/Marcus H.S.) moved ahead of Janet Gribnitz in the UD record books when she scored her 1,362 point on a free throw early in the second half. Sczepanski finished with 23 points, giving her 1,369 points so far in her career. Last weekend in California, she also broke both the career field goal and free throw records, and has 486 and 392 after tonight's contest. In the 11 point win over Dallas Christian Tuesday evening, she also had a team high 21 rebounds (9 offensive) for her 13th double-double, along with 4 assists and 2 steals. Freshman guard Kylie Yoshimura (Temple City, CA/Mark Keppel H.S.) was also instrumental in the Crusader win with 16 points and a team leading 6 assists, and fellow freshman guard Christina Kurt (Katy, TX/Faith West Academy) totaled 14 points and hauled down 4 rebounds. Junior forward/center Joirdan Cole (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch H.S.) had 10 rebounds during the game with 4 points and 3 assists, while sophomore guard Kelly Regan (Plano, TX/John Paul II H.S.) was also a team leader with 9 rebounds, 4 points and 2 steals.

The 12-12 Crusaders will remain at home to play their next game on Saturday, February 20 against Trinity University. The home finale tips off at 4:00pm.
