SERIES PREVIEW: UD Softball Hosts Centenary on Saturday and Sunday

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team hosts Centenary College for a three-game series this weekend. Things start off with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. on Saturday, with the finale on Sunday also at 12 p.m.

Dallas is 2-5 overall and 2-4 in conference play after a split with Austin College last weekend. UD picked up a 2-1 series win over the 'Roos for the conference games. Both wins were walk-offs.

Annabel Anderson (Midlothian, Texas) earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Hitter of the Week after batting .583 (7-12) with five RBI and three extra base hits, including two home runs. She also carried a .688 on-base percentage and 1.167 slugging percentage. The outfielder is batting .500 overall this year.

Brenna Kelley (Missouri City, Texas) is also off to a nice start as the freshman has a team-high six RBI to go with a .375 batting average. She has demonstrated her defensive utility by playing at third base, short stop, and second base thus far. Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.) is tied with Kelly for most runs produced with six.

Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) and Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) have each eclipsed 20 innings in the circle.

The Ladies are 9-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play this season. They fell in a three-game series to University of St. Thomas last weekend at home: 8-3, 6-4, and 8-1. Hailee Leger has been the top pitcher in the league with a 1.85 earned run average and ranks second in the league with 53 strikeouts. Ashley Hunter hasn't been bad either with a 3.47 ERA. Mackenzie Cox will be the player to watch on offense with 18 hits and a .415 on-base percentage. Kaylea Patridge has swiped 12 stolen bases.

These teams last met in 2020 prior to the spring season being shortened due to COVID-19. In Shreveport, the Ladies won two-of-three with a pair of walk-offs, 5-4 and 4-3. UD picked up a 6-4 win in eight innings. Madison Coutts (Tampa, Fla.), Cordova, Anderson, and Karina Campo (Georgetown, Texas) each had a double. Coutts ripped two for both her knocks. Campo added a two RBI game in the win.
