FIRST PITCH

The University of Dallas softball team participates in the Millsaps Tournament 2020 this Friday through Sunday. A quartet of games are on the ledger including a pair with host Millsaps College and pair of neutral site games. UD NOTES

- Mackenzie Tano (Wylie, Texas_ leads the team with eight hits. Annabel Anderson (Midlothian, Texas) is right behind with seven, and Madison Coutts (Tampa, Fla.) and Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.) have six.

- A quartet of Crusaders have recorded a double. Anderson has launched the team's lone home run.

- Anderson, Bri Hale (Austin, Texas), and Kerstyn McLain (Splendora, Texas) are tops on the squad with four runs batted in each.

- Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) has thrown 19.1 innings and gone 2-1. She had a complete game shutout in the team's last victory at Howard Payne.

- Dallas has dropped three straight after winnings its first three.


OPPONENT NOTES

- Millsaps enters 3-3 overall and has lost two times. The team is 2-0 at home.

- The Majors have logged 50 hits and allowed 51. Leslie Norris leads with seven hits, while four other players have six. Lindsey Osbon has the lone homer and team-high four RBI.

- Five pitchers have made an appearance. Amber Funderburk is 1-1 with a 2.14 earned run average in 16.1 innings.

- Former UD infielder Mel Savala (2016-19) now serves as the assistant head coach for the Majors.

- Mississippi University for Women is 2-0 on the campaign after sweeping Judson College on Monday. The finals were 8-0 and 6-5. MUW plays fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) opponent Austin College on Friday.

- Megan Cummins went 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Kelsie Gerhart drove in three runs in the twinbill. Katie Beth Williams stole three bases. MUW has eight as a squad.

- MacKenzie Denton tossed 5.2 shutout innings in her one appearance. She worked around three hits and three walks. Kaitlyn Parris and Denton each had four strikeouts in their wins.

- LaGrange begins its season on Friday with MUW. The team also has fellow SCAC foe Austin College and Millsaps before its game with Dallas.

- The Panthers went 16-17 in 2019. This included a 9-7 mark in the USA South.

- LaGrange was selected fourth in the USA South West Division Coaches' Preseason poll with 39 points. LC returns 20 players from last season and added 13 newcomers.

- USA South West Division First Team recipients, Taylor Long and Brittany Todd, are standout returners. Long batted .482 (3rd USA South) and posted a .508 on-base percentage to go with 25 stolen bases, 54 hits, and 35 runs. Todd batted .381 to go with a .409 on-base percentage and .512 slugging percentage. She recorded 32 hits, 19 runs, 12 steals, and nine doubles.
