Duenas and Devlin are Key in Game 2 at Trinity for 1st SCAC Victory
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team split its Saturday doubleheader at Trinity University to open the four-game series. Dallas dropped the series opener after allowing a three-run second that sparked the last four runs scored by the Tigers after the visitors had tied things at 2-2 in the top of the inning.
Julie Duenas (Houston, Texas) had a big knock that three Crusaders scored on to open a five-run lead in the second inning of the later game. Trinity rallied with four in the bottom of the third, but Lindsay Devlin (Leander, Texas) earned her first career pitching decision for a win after 4.1 shutout innings. The win was the first in conference play and snapped an 11-game slide.

Caitlyn Stevenson (Henderson, Nev.) lifted her second home run of the season to lead off the game and give the Crusaders their lone lead of the first game.
Trinity answered immediately with Devon Potter doubling to right center that scored Emily Vaclavik. Potter scored the go-ahead run on a ground out by Brianna Pena.
Bri Hale (Austin, Texas) leveled the score in the second with an RBI-single to center field that scored Mel Savala (Bryan, Texas). Later that inning, the Tigers got the Crusaders in a run-down that prevented the go-ahead run from scoring and ending the inning.
A trio of runs came in during the next half inning, as Potter singled through the right side for a pair of runs-batted-in to give her a game-high three. Jenna Kash scored the third run that frame.
Trinity added its final run on an RBI base hit by Marisa Trevino in the fifth to score Pena.
Potter and Pena recorded the team's extra-base hits with a double and triple, respectively. Potter, Trevino, Danielle Ruiz, and Rylie Goldwait led the hit column with 2-for-3 performances. TU finished with 13 hits.
Dallas was led by Stevenson and Duenas with 2-for-4 games. Mackenzie Tano (Wylie, Texas), Karina Campo (Georgetown, Texas), and Hale picked up a hit each in the bottom third of the lineup. Campo was saddled with the loss, as she threw 4.1 innings and allowed all six runs on 12 hits. She walked one and struck out one.
Allie Holbrook settled down after allowing a run in the first two innings. One was unearned, as she scattered seven hits, walked one, and fanned four in the complete game.

The Crusaders once again did all their scoring within the first two innings of the game. Despite being outhit 11-8, UD posted its runs in bunches and were able to capitalize on two Trinity defensive miscues.
Both runs in the first inning were unearned to Trinity's starter Cat Patterson. Stevenson scored on a wild pitch and Duenas moved to third. She would score on a sacrifice fly as Cordova hit a foul ball down left field.
The sophomore third baseman delivered the decisive knock in the second with a single down the right field line that credited her two RBI. And error allowed Duenas to hustle to third. Tano, Stevenson, and Madison Coutts (Tampa, Fla.) all scored on that play.
Trinity attacked with six hits and notched four runs in the third inning to chase Dallas starter Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) from her start. Pena, Trevino, and Carli Jones all singled on run-scoring plays. Pena led the way with a pair of ribbies.
Devlin logged her second longest outing of her freshman season with 4.1 innings. Her other outing to go at least two innings was last week at Centenary College, where she blanked the Ladies in 5.2 innings of relief.
The Tigers left nine runners on overall and had at least one on the last four innings Devlin worked for her win. She allowed four hits and walked two to go with her lone strikeout. The rookie right hander was also responsible for fielding and throwing the ground out to first to secure Dallas' first conference win on the final out of the game.
Watts allowed four runs on seven hits, while walking one in 2.2 innings of the no decision. She also had gone 1.2 scoreless innings in the first contest.
Duenas finished with a 3-for-4 game with a double, two RBI, and run scored. She was the lone multi-hit finisher for Dallas. Stevenson, Coutts, Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Tano, and Hale recorded base knocks.
Vaclavik claimed a 3-for-4 outing at the plate for the Tigers. She scored a run. Trevino (2-3) and Jones (2-4) had the other multi-hit games for Trinity. None of the Tigers hits went for extra bases.
Patterson went four innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits. She walked one and struck out two. Alyssa Jolliffe hurled the last three innings and did not give up a run. She allowed a hit and struck out one, while walking none.
