Softball splits Two Thrillers on Sunday Night

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team (9-6, 2-2 SCAC) claimed a split on Saturday night's doubleheader versus Centenary College of Louisiana (5-5, 2-4 SCAC). Dallas extended its longest winning streak since 2013, when it boasted four-straight against Sarah Lawrence on Apr. 13-14.

The five-game span marks the most in a row since the 2010 campaign, when UD rattled off seven.

Game one of the four-game set favored the Lady Crusaders 2-0. It was the team's fourth shutout of the year. Centenary College counted in the second contest of the nightcap with a 2-1 final.

In the opener, sophomore Katie Lee (Houston, Texas) was able to scatter the Maroon and White to seven hits, while walking three, and striking out five in the complete game effort. Lee (8-4) blanked opponents for the third-straight affair.

UD was outhit by two, with sophomore Lyda Tesauro (Hollywood, Fla.) posting a double and triple for the multi-hit outing. She scored the go-ahead run in the second inning off a sacrifice fly from classmate Alexandria Compte (Houston, Texas).

The first baseman claimed the lone RBI of the contest for either side. Dallas doubled its advantage by freshman Azaria Herrera (San Juan, Texas) reaching via a dropped third strike. The infielder moved to scoring position on a wild pitch and was brought in by sophomore Allison Kotlar (Edna, Texas).

Senior Taylor Garcia (Pflugerville,Texas), Kotlar, and Compte completed the trio of single base knocks for the Lady Crusaders.

Centenary was led offensively by Morgan Daigle and Emily Sexton with four hits in six at-bats altogether. The duo each had a pair of singles. Anna Dunn ripped a double for the lone extra base knock for the Ladies.

Saddled with the loss in the circle was Laura Perilloux (1-4). She tossed six frames, allowing two runs to go with a walk and two strikeouts.

Dallas fell in the second game 2-1. Its opponent scratched a run across in the first trip to the plate as a team. The Navy and White clawed back with a run in the bottom of the second. Tesauro, who claimed one of the group's seven hits, crossed the dish for UD's only run of the contest. She scored on a bad throw by Centenary's catcher trying to pick her off at third base.

Tallying multiple hit efforts for the Lady Crusaders were Garcia and freshman Eliah Davila (Abilene, Texas) with two-for-three evenings at the dish apiece.

Junior Avery Finch added a hit, and stole two bases while Herrera added one.

Lee escaped several jams throughout the night, but the Ladies were able to plate the game-winner in the fourth. Dunn singled up the middle to bring home Melanie Wilson. Finch did nab Sexton on a throw from short center to preserve a one-run deficit.

Centenary had three players combine for six of the Maroon and White's 11 hits. Daigle, Sexton, and Cadie Hancock all achieved the feat. The Ladies stranded 12 runners in the victory.

Haley Miller (3-1) earned the win in the circle, going seven innings and allowing a run (unearned) on seven hits. She walked two.
