Softball claims wins on Albertus Magnus and Cazenovia

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The University of Dallas softball team (8-6) extended its season-long, four game winning streak with a 1-0 victory over Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday morning. Later that day, UD would use a 3-0 triumph on Cazenovia College to complete a sweep of the South Carolina Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

Dallas has won five of six, all coming on the road away from Crusader Field. It also is the first time since opening day, the Navy and White have gone above .500 on the campaign.

Despite being outhit 6-3 by the Falcons, UD got the one knock to count and sophomore Katie Lee (Houston, Texas) made the home team strand eight base runners. Lee would pick the win up by increasing her total innings pitched in the tournament to 19. She allowed six hits, walked one, and struck out six for a season-high at the time.

Providing the heroics offensively at the time was freshman Madison Goforth (Tyler, Texas) with an RBI triple to bring in sophomore Allison Kotlar (Edna, Texas), who led the frame off with a single to left.

Rounding out the trio of Lady Crusaders that tallied a hit was senior Taylor Garcia (Pflugerville, Texas).

Dallas notched consecutive shutouts and lifted its total on the year to three after getting past Cazenovia. The Wildcats were outhit 6-4, as the Navy and White got on the board in the first inning.

Finch began the affair with a bunt single and used to speed to reach second on the play. After stealing third – one of two swipes on the afternoon – Goforth brought her in with an RBI.

The third baseman claimed a tremendous effort over the four-game tournament, as she combined for five hits, two doubles, a pair of triples, seven runs batted in, and three times scored.

Kotlar doubled in the sixth to give the Lady Crusaders a few insurance runs. Sophomore Alexandria Compte (Houston, Texas) and freshman Azaria Herrera (San Juan, Texas) came around on the sequence to increase the home team's edge.

Lee (7-3) had plenty of support as she clinched her third complete game shutout, while fanning a new season-high, seven. The Houston, Texas, native allowed four hits on a walk and pitched 41 innings on the past six-game road trip.

Dallas returns home for a season-long, eight-game stretch at the friendly confines. Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play begins March 14-15 with a doubleheader versus Centenary College of Louisiana. First pitch on Saturday is at 12 p.m.
