@UofDallas Softball takes both games over Southwestern Assemblies of God

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team (2-0) swept Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) 4-2 and 4-1 on Saturday in a fall ball doubleheader.

The Lady Crusaders matched four runs apiece in both contests and accumulated 15 hits altogether in the pair of triumphs. Freshman third baseman Madison Goforth (Tyler, Texas) delivered a critical three-run homer in the first slate of the twinbill to help Dallas erase a one-run deficit.

Game 1: Dallas defeats Southwestern Assemblies of God, 4-2:

In the opening inning, Dallas allowed SAGU (0-2) to take an early advantage on an unearned run. However, the home squad held things down, limiting the Lady Lions to five hits throughout the contest.

Goforth blasted her first career homer in the third inning, which drove in sophomore outfielder Avery Finch (Jamul, Calif.) and sophomore outfielder Allison Kotlar (Edna, Texas) to give Dallas the edge for good. Both runners reached prior to the long ball via base hits, which the trio accounted towards the squad's eight total in the win.

SAGU nipped at the margin in the top of the fourth, adding a run off of Sarah Smith's single to right field.

Dallas countered with another scoring result in the bottom half of the frame, as Finch doubled to right field to drive in freshman utility player Azaria Herrera (San Juan, Texas). Finch joined Goforth with multiple hit contests to pace the navy and white, and also contributed all of the team's RBI.

Kotlar, Herrera, and freshman second baseman Eliah Davila (Abilene, Texas) all added knocks in the opener.

Settling in after a rough start was freshman pitcher Gabby Ybarra going the distance in the circle with one earned run and five hits scattered. She walked three and fanned two SAGU hitters.

Game 2: Dallas completes sweep over SAGU, 4-1:

Another early one-run hole would begin in the second game of the doubleheader match-up, as the Lady Lions took a 1-0 edge in the second innings.

Dallas began the bottom half with a trio of consecutive singles, and took advantage of a few fielding miscues by the road opponent. Davila reached on an error by the short stop, which allowed all the base runners to advance 90 feet and inevitably tied the ballgame.

A batter later, Herrera sprinted home on a passed ball to give Dallas its second unearned run of the inning and the 2-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, another pair of unearned runs would cross the dish for the navy and white. Kotlar produced her second base hit on the day and tallied the RBI to extend the advantage for the Lady Crusaders.

Herrera managed a 1.000 batting average in the later contest, leading the offense with two base knocks, and joining the infielder was senior catcher Taylor Garcia (Pflugerville, Texas). Finch, Kotlar, and freshman first baseman Christina Torre (Abilene, Texas) all added to the eight-hit parade.

Freshman pitcher Elizabeth Symanski (Wilmington, Vt.) threw seven innings of two-hit ball, allowing the single earned run while walking three and fanning a pair.
