Softball takes two on road versus Texas College

TYLER, Texas - On Friday, the University of Dallas softball team (6-18) engineered two wins against Texas College in a doubleheader, taking Game 1, 9-5, while winning Game 2, 17-9.

Game 1: Dallas 9, Texas College 5 (F/7) Boxscore

In Game 1, the Lady Crusaders were led offensively with back-to-back home runs in the 6th inning. Jessie Allen and junior pitcher Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, Minn./Convent of the Visitation School) accounted for the 'big flys,' totaling three RBIs with the round-trippers.

Other offensive productivity for Dallas came from senior utility player Cheryl Hinze (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.), who smacked a double in the 6th inning.

Defensively, sophomore infielder Christina Jeffrey (Tomball, Texas/Concordia Lutheran) led Dallas with three assists. Mollner also helped by pitching seven innings, getting three strikeouts and only allowing two earned runs.

Game 2: Dallas 17, Texas College 9 (F/6) Boxscore

Meanwhile, Game 2 ended with Dallas scoring their season-high in runs, with the Lady Crusaders reaching home plate 17 times before the game was called after six innings.

Hinze and sophomore infielder Brittany Castro (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.) led the Lady Crusaders, totaling three RBIs apiece. Hinze was able to clear the bases with a double and a triple, out of three hits. She also pitched the entire game, striking out two, while six runs were credited to her name from the mound.

Defensively, Castro led the team with three assists and four putouts. Freshman first baseman Mallori Westbrook (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron H.S.) also tied for the lead in putouts.

The Lady Crusaders look to lengthen their current two game winning streak and take the season sweep against Texas College on Wednesday, April 6, in two seven-inning games. Game 1 of the doubleheader will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Crusader Field.
