Softball earns another victory, splits doubleheader on road versus Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team (4-14) split their doubleheader versus Austin College on Wednesday, earning the 9-8 Game 1 victory, before falling to the Kangaroos 19-3 in Game 2. 

Game 1: Dallas 9, Austin College 8 Boxscore

Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, Minn./Convent of the Visitation School) got her third win as a pitcher against the 'Roos in Game 1. The junior pitched a complete game seven innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, in addition to striking out two and walking three batters.    

The Lady Crusaders got on the scoreboard in the 4th inning, to the tune of a pivotal six run inning. Meghan Frost (Bandera, Texas/Northshore H.S.) hit a homerun to left center, bringing in Dallas' first two RBIs.

Maggie Boylan (San Marcos, Texas/San Marcos Baptist Academy) then scored on an error by the shortstop, while sophomore shortstop Brittany Castro (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.) proceeded to hit a double to center field, which brought in two more runners.

Christina Jeffrey (Tomball, Texas/Concordia Lutheran) also doubled in the inning, which brought in Hinze for the 6th run. Dallas scored their last three runs in the 6th inning, off another double by Cheryl Hinze (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.). Castro then knocked in Hinze, with a homerun.

Game 2: Austin College 19, Dallas 3 Boxscore

After getting a close win in the first game, Dallas was held to three runs on five hits, as Austin College scored a hefty 19 runs. The loss brings the team to a record of 4-14 for the season.

Offensively, Castro went 3-for-3 in the game, including an RBI double in the 3rd inning. Mollner hit her first homerun of the season, in her first at-bat.

Defensively, Mollner came in for relief of senior pitcher Hinze. Nonetheless, senior Meghan Frost (Bandera, Texas/Northshore H.S.) produced four putouts and two assists in the game.

The Lady Crusaders look to to get back on the winning side of things when the Trinity University Tigers come to Crusader Field for a doubleheader on March 19. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
