Softball concludes Wyndham Las Colinas Classic with Game 1 victory over Rust College (Miss.), but suffers Game 2 defeat to Austin College

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team (3-13) won their first of two games in the second day as host team of the Las Colinas Classic, beating Rust College, 13-3, in Game 1, while losing the Game 2 to Austin College, 12-3.

Game 1: Dallas 13, Rust College 3 Boxscore

Dallas was able to put together a concerted team effort against Rust College, as the Lady Crusader showed off their offensive power, early, scoring all of their runs in the first two innings. Christina Jeffrey (Tomball, Texas/Concordia Lutheran) led the the team with four RBIs on three hits -- two being doubles. Jeffrey, Dallas' catcher, also led the team defensively with seven putouts.

In five innings on the mound, senior Cheryl Hinze (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.) gave up only four hits and threw six strikeouts, which was good enough for the win.  

Game 2: Dallas 3, Austin College 12 Boxscore

After the strong offensive showing against Rust, Dallas was held to five hits in Game 2 by Austin College. However, Dallas was still able to get some offensive production. Senior catcher Meghan Frost (Bandera, Texas/Northshore H.S.) brought in two of UD's three runs, on a single in the fourth inning.

Defensively, junior pitcher Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, Minn./Convent of the Visitation School) was able to keep the pitches in the strike zone, allowing only one walk and throwing six strikeouts in seven innings. Freshman second baseman Meredith Noe (Sugar Land, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) contributed  in the field as well, leading the team with three assists.

Dallas looks to get back on the winning side of things, on Wednesday, March 16, as they head to Austin College to play a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m.
