Softball can't slow Briar Cliff University, falls in both games of doubleheader to Chargers

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team (0-8) was held scoreless in two games against Briar Cliff University (Iowa), on Wednesday evening at Crusader Field. Dallas was defeated in Game 1, 11-0, and fell in Game 2, 10-0.

In the first game, Dallas held the Chargers to 10 hits, while starting pitcher Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, Minn./Convent of the Visitation School) threw four strikeouts.

Meanwhile, sophomore shortstop Brittany Castro (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.) was able to keep Dallas from getting shutout in hits, registering a single in the 1st inning.

Game 2: Dallas 0, Briar Cliff University 10 Boxscore

In game two of the doubleheader, the Lady Crusaders held the Chargers to 10 runs on nine hits, while recording three errors in the process. Offensively, Dallas had one hit in the game, a triple by sophomore third baseman Christina Jeffrey (Tomball, Texas/Concordia Lutheran).

Defensively, the Lady Crusaders were led by Mollner, who pitched 4.2 innings, giving up seven of Briar Cliff's nine hits, while netting three three strikeouts. She was replaced by senior utility player Cheryl Hinze (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.) to finish up the game.

Also, first baseman Mallori Westbrook (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron H.S.) helped out with a team-high seven put-outs.

The Lady Crusaders will play their next games on Saturday, Mar. 5, in Conway, Ark., against Washington University (MO), and host school of the 'Warrior Spring Fling,' Hendrix College. Looking to get their season heading the right direction, Dallas will play Washington University (MO) at 4:00 p.m.
