Chapman Softball Outscores Dallas in Doubleheader

The University of Dallas Crusaders lost their last two games of the season in a doubleheader versus the Chapman University Panthers in Orange, CA Saturday afternoon. Dallas was beaten in both games 9-1 in both games of the doubleheader.

In the first game, Dallas scored in the first inning when sophomore outfielder Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, MN/Convent of the Visitation School) reached first on a walk, stole second, and was brought home on a single by freshman infielder Sandra Gallegos (Houston, TX/Lamar H.S.). That turned out to be the lone run in the loss as the Panthers added a run in the bottom half of the frame before adding 5 and 3 runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Gallegos had a great game going 2-3 at the plate and driving in the only run. Freshman catcher Morgan Smith (Irving, TX/Bishop Dunne) went 1-2 and stole a base. Senior infielder/pitcher Whitney Thomas (Fort Worth, TX/Nolan Catholic) pitched the entire game and recorded 3 strikeouts.

In game two, Thomas scored Dallas' lone run in the second inning. Thomas singled up the middle and advanced to second when senior outfielder Amber Adams (Dallas, TX/Dallas Christian H.S.) singled to center field. Freshman pitcher/infielder Liana Reveles (Austin, TX/James Bowie H.S.) brought Thomas in with the RBI double in the top of the second before Chapman put nine on the board over the third and fourth innings. Thomas went 2-2 at the plate stroking a double in the third inning, and Reveles went 3-3 with a double and an RBI.  She also started the game for UD and allowed only 4 earned runs.  Dallas hit much better in the second game against Chapman ending with a total of 9 hits compared to only 4 in the first game.
