Dallas Softball Swept in Home Games Versus Concordia University

The University of Dallas Crusaders lost a home doubleheader against the Concordia University Tornados from Austin, TX 7-0 and 6-4.  Concordia jumped on top from the get go in game one for the 7 run lead and the Tornados fought back after UD scored 4 runs in the first two innings for the comeback victory.

After falling behind by a run in the first inning, Concordia put up totals of 2, 1, and 3 runs in the third, fifth, and six innings for the win.  Sophomore infielder Rebecca Burns (River Ridge, LA/John Curtis Christian School) had a big day at the plate by going 2-3 and collecting the teams first 2 hits, but Dallas was unable to put together a rally.  Senior infielder/pitcher Whitney Thomas (Fort Worth, TX/Nolan Catholic), sophomore pitcher/infielder Liana Reveles (Austin, TX/James Bowie H.S.), and freshman infielder Morgan Smith (Irving, TX/Bishop Dunne) added the other hits for UD.  Smith stole her team leading 15th base, and Thomas and Reveles pitched for UD.  Thomas got the start and went 4 innings while striking out 2, and Reveles tossed the final 3 innings while also striking out 2.

Game 2 started off completely different for UD after jumping on top with a run in the bottom half of inning of the first inning when junior outfielder Jesse Allen (Madison, MS/St. Andrew's Episcopal) led off the inning with a walk and quickly stole second for her 14th theft of the year.  A batter later Thomas drove in Allen with a single picking up her first of 2 hits in the game.  After sitting down Concordia 1-2-3 in the second, the Dallas bats really came to life when the hot hitting Burns started off the inning with a single to left field.  Reveles followed by reaching on a fielder's choice with Burns being thrown out on the play, but that rally wouldn't die. Freshman infielder Christina Jeffrey (Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) stroked her 3rd triple of the year to drive in Reveles.  Smith matched Jeffrey with an RBI of her own as she drove in Jeffrey, and reached on another fielder's choice.  Smith then added steal number 15, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on an error for the last run of the inning and UD held the 4-0 lead.  After a scoreless third inning for both teams, the Tornados matched UD by plating 4 runs and the game was tied at 4 after they shot down UD in their half of inning number four.  Concordia then added 2 more runs in the top of the seventh inning, Dallas threatened with consecutive walks, but the team was unable to push any runs across the plate.  Burns and Jeffrey joined Thomas with 2 hits for UD, and Reveles tossed a complete game with 3 strikeouts in picking up the loss.

The 16-12 Dallas team gets right back at it tomorrow afternoon when they host the Pirates from Southwestern University.  The doubleheader starts at 2:00pm.
