UD Softball Wins First Two Games of Spring Kickoff, Reveles Throws No Hitter

Despite having just watched Cornell College handily defeat Rust College, UD was not intimidated, defeating Cornell 13-5. Dallas sent a message early by putting up a crooked 9 on the scoreboard in the first inning. Cornell quickly responded by putting up 4 runs in the second inning and another run in the third inning. After that however, Dallas shut down Cornell, and ended the game by scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, which caused the run-rule to go into effect.

Highlights of the game included home runs by starting pitcher Whitney Thomas (Fort Worth, TX/Nolan Catholic) and starting second baseman Becca Burns (River Ridge, LA/John Curtis Christian School). Thomas also pitched well, allowing only one earned run in five innings while inducing six groundouts and striking out three. Shortstop Brittany Castro (Houston, TX/Langham Creek H.S.) had a great game offensively, collecting two hits and scoring three times. Sophomore outfielder Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, MN/Covent of the Visitation School), junior outfielder Jesse Allen (Madison, MS/St. Andrew's Episcopal School), and freshman catcher Morgan Smith (Irving, TX/Bishop Dunne) each scored two runs.

The softball team then won their second game of the UD Spring Kickoff on Friday February 26, 2010 by handily defeating the Rust College Bearcats. Despite the cold weather outside, the Crusaders played a great game scoring 18 runs and allowing none to come home. Dallas started off the game strong by scoring 10 runs in the first inning and 8 in the second. Freshmen pitcher/infielder Liana Reveles Austin, TX/James Bowie H.S.), freshman infielder Jill Prososki (Fargo, ND/Shanley H.S.), and freshman infielder Kayla McEnery St. Louis, MO/St. Agnes Academy) all stroked triples, with Reveles and Prososki contributing one run each and McEnery contributing two. Reveles led the team with 4 RBI while freshman infielder Christina Jeffery Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) brought in 3. Both Jeffery and Smith scored 3 runs while Castro and senior outfielder/infielder Amber Adams (Dallas, TX/Dallas Christian Academy) scored 2 runs each. Mollner and junior Allen both scored two runs and had an RBI. The player of the game was definitely Reveles who was able to perform well both on and off the mound. She faced 16, recorded 10 strikeouts, and allowed no hits and no runs in recording the no hitter.

UD softball looks to continue their winning ways in the Spring Kickoff on Saturday with a game against the University of the Ozarks Eagles at 4:00pm and another against the familiar Rust College Bearcats at 6:00pm.
