Schneigert Announces Men's Cross Country/Track & Field Recruiting Class

IRVING, Texas - Nick Schneigert, head coach of the University of Dallas' Cross Country and Track & Field programs has announced the men's recruiting class for the 2023-24 season.

Bruce Reed - Belton, Texas - Holy Trinity Catholic High School

Reed comes from a strong Catholic background and was quite keen to be a part of the UD culture, verbally committing in the spring of 2022. Throughout his cross country career in high school, he consistently raced in sub 19 minute and sub 18 minute time in both in the 5k and the 3 mile. During his senior season, he placed sixth at the TAPPS 3A Cross Country Championships. His PR in cross country was a 17:18 in the 5k. Meanwhile, on the track side, he had PR's of 4:46 in the mile and 10:23 in the 2 mile. He will specialize in the 5000 meters and the 10000 meters in track. A member of the National Honors Society and a fantastic student, Reed is expected to be a strong student and a strong athlete the next four years at UD.

Thomas Skendzel - Thompsonville, Michigan - Saint Francis Catholic High School

Skendzel showed tremendous development throughout his high school career, eventually hitting a PR of 17:36 in the 5k. He consistently hit sub 18 minutes in the 5k from last September until the regional championships in late October. On the track side of things, he had a PR of 4:45 in the 1600 meters and a PR of 10:54 in the 3200 meters, all while being a straight-A student. He will specialize in the 5000 meters and the 10000 meters on the track.

"These two athletes will immeiately make an impact on the team and be vying for the number one and two spots," sead Schneigert. "It will be fun to see Nico Walz, Skendzel, and Reed push each other. Both Reed and Skendzel will join Walz and senior James Latour in the 5000 meters and the 10000 meters. I don't think we ever had four males line on for both events in the conference championships. These two athletes are so strong in the classroom that I think we will make a strong push for NCAA All Academic as a team again for both cross country and track."
