Walz Sets PR at Mustang Open

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The University of Dallas men's cross country team competed in the Mustang Derby 8k, hosted by Midwestern State on Saturday.  The Crusaders were in the back of the pack in 13th place and 382 points, with the majority of the opposition comprised of NAIA, Division II, and NJCAA Division I programs.  Western New Mexico took first place with 21 points and an average time of 25:40.

Nico Walz paced the team as he has done all season, setting a new PR with a final time of 29:19.3 in the 8k.  James latour and Tanish Garg finished within four seconds of each other, Latour coming in at 30:58.2 and Garg at 31:01.1.  Caleb Clayton and Paul Simko were also tightly paired, with Clayton coming in at a PR of 32:29.2 and Simko at 32:34.9.  Andrew Kamp did not compete, as he was away on a Catholic retreat.

"It was a great meet today!  The cooler weather helped keep their hear rates down, which gave us faster times , it was great to see Nico and Caleb get PR's," said head coach Nick Schneigert.  "I had Tanish partnered up with Nico for the race, but he went a little too hard at the gun and dropped off a bit at the end.  It will be fun to see how this group will mix with our strong 2023 recruiting class."
