Men's Cross Country competes in First 8K of Season at Saints Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas men's cross country team ran its first 8k this fall in the 2017 Saints Invitational on Saturday. Dallas scored 153 points for seventh place as a team. The Crusaders averaged a 30:06 time and the top five spots recorded 12, 25, 33, 38, and 45 points, respectively.

Joseph Kilmer (Rockville, Md.) finished a team-best for the third time in as many races this season for UD with a 28:14.8 time good enough for 15th place. Of 68 competitors, Dallas placed two runners in the top 30 with Elijah Depew (Grove City, Pa.) getting tabbed 29th for a 29:16.1 mark.

Rounding out the top three Dallas times was Joseph Boyle (St. Paul, Minn.) with a 30:09.3-clip. Andrew Maal (Pueblo West, Colo.) notched a personal record (PR) with a 30:53.6 time. His best 8k score in 2016 was 31:59 minutes at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on November 11th.

Hardin-Simmons University came away the winner with 69 points. Host Our Lady of the Lake followed in second with 71. Jacksonville College (84) and Texas Lutheran University (86) closely competed for the next pair of spots. Southwestern University was the other Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) program that appeared, and took sixth ahead of the Crusaders with 129 points.

Christopher Gonzalez (27:07.3) and Patrick Torres (27:15.2) were the top two individual finishers and were registered unattached. Nathaniel Aguilar from Our Lady of the Lake completed the top three 0.4 seconds behind Torres.

UP NEXT

Dallas returns to the trails in two weeks on October 7th in the University of Ozarks Invitational. That meet will be another 8k for the guys, and will be consecutive years the Crusaders competed in that competition.
