Men's Cross Country Results from Hardin-Simmons University Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Dallas men's cross country team competed at the Hardin-Simmons University Invitational on Friday. It was the first 5k for the Crusaders this season.

Joseph Kilmer (Rockville, Md.) led Dallas on the men's side for consecutive races to start this fall out. The freshman earned 11th place with a 16:39 time. Only two competitors from host Hardin-Simmons ran faster marks than Kilmer that were from NCAA Division III schools. That tandem included Ben Splain (16:13 – 7th) and AJ Tillman (16:33 – 10th) for the Cowboys.

Kilmer did notch a personal record (PR) and was among five Crusaders to garner their best career times. Returners Andrew Maal (Pueblo West, Colo.) and Maximilian Wilson (Houston, Texas) respectively posted 17:58 and 20:08 times. Maal shaved 1:16 minutes off his fastest 5k in his debut season in 2016. Wilson's previous best was a 20:45.6 time in 2016.

Joe Boyle (St. Paul, Minn.) and Peter Hedlesky (Florissant, Mo.) were the other newcomers to display PRs and help form the quintet that achieved such times. Boyle ran a 17:44 time and Hedlesky tallied a 20:10 final result.

After Kilmer's fastest Dallas time, Elijah Depew (Grove City, Pa.) was the next fastest runner for UD with a 17:33 time. Boyle rounded out the top trio with his time. This was the same top three runners for the Crusaders in their opening race a week ago in Tyler.

Overall the top three fastest times involved Michael Campbell (14:43) from Odessa College, Laban Kandie (15:33) from Angel State University, and Jahlil Howard (15:34) from Ranger College.

Ranger won the team results with 27 points and Angelo State University followed with 63. Host team Hardin-Simmons completed the top three teams in the rankings with 67 points and were the fastest among NCAA DIII. Fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Texas Lutheran University was present and had 133 points for fifth. UD came next after the hosts of the conference championships on October 28th with 139 points.
