Grubner Named SCAC Character & Community Male Athlete of the Week

JACK GRUBNER OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior on the men's cross country and track and field team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week beginning November 23, 2015.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Grubner has lettered all four years for the cross country team and two for the track and field team. He has been a member of both squads during his time at UD, and is a captain for both in his senior year.

The runner has taken to getting involved with the community, particularly working with children. Grubner serves as a director for Kidventure, a camp that provides children unlimited opportunities for fun, adventure, and growth. The Needham, Massachusetts, native also helps coach middle school cross country at Great Hearts in Irving.

"I really enjoy working with kids, because I always think it is important to pass on what you know to the younger generation," Grubner stated. "I remember all the great coaches, teachers, and counselors I had when I was younger. It is important to instill those virtues that you have to help teach kids, and there is a satisfying feeling at the end of the day to feel like you made a difference in someone's life."

Grubner looks to be a good role model for his younger peers, and has demonstrated it with his dedication to both teaching and commitment to racing for the Crusaders. Grubner is majoring in history at University of Dallas. After graduation this spring, Grubner plans to coach for a year before pursuing his career by attending Law School.
