Day 1 of TSU Relays In the Books

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Dallas men's track and field competed in day one of the TSU Relays on Friday.

The guys rans in some tough conditions this morning.  Though the temperature was nice and cool, the howling winds certainly made things uncomfortable.  James Latour and Nico Walz both went out and worked hard in the 5,000 meters, finishing in 18:21.70 and 18:37.10, respectively.  They were the only Division III athletes in the field, the rest of the runners being from Division I programs.

The Crusaders were the only Division III program on the sprint side of things as well, facing Division I, NAIA, and NJCAA programs.  Uniikye Washington and Chris Easterday both ran the 100 meteres, Washington posting a PR of 11.60.  DaShaun Merritt ran his first ever 400 meters, posting a time of 57.00.

"Today was a good day for us, and we're looking forward tomorrow," said head coach Nick Schneigert. "We're the only Division III program out here, but that's alright with us.  Uniikye has shown great improvement setting his PR today, and DaShaun did really well for his first 400 meters.  We'll be running the 1,500, the 200, and the 4x4 tomorrow. and we're excited for the challenge that awaits us."
