Crusaders Wrapped up SCAC Track & Field Championships on Sunday

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's track and field competed in the day two of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships in Seguin, Texas on Sunday. Luke LaCour (Metairie, La.) had a grueling meet as he competed in the 800m, the 1500m run and the 4x400m relay. LaCour had the highest final standing of any Crusader at the SCAC Championship with an eighth place finish in the 1500m and running a personal record time of 4:22.08, crushing his previous PR by over eight seconds. LaCour also broke his personal best in the 800m too registering a time of 2:04.41, 0.99 seconds faster than his previous best.

Samuel McLard (Flower Mound, Texas) also recorded a pair of PRs. McLard first broke his old javelin throw PR with a distance of 16.28m (53'5"), an over 1.75m improvement, and later McLard improved his 100m dash time by almost 0.70 seconds with a time of 14.28.

All four members of UD's distance team competed in the 5000m run on Sunday, marking the first time UD has ever had four runners in the 5000m at the SCAC Championships. The fastest of the four on Sunday was Jonathan Cantu (Dallas, Texas) with a time of 17:32.04. He had been on pace for sub 17 minutes and had to slow down due to his ankle and achilles being injured. The next fastest Crusader was Nico Walz (Irving, Texas) with a time of 17:48.41. Ryan Connor (Overland Park, Kan.) ran 18:15.67, and James LaTour (Lubbock, Texas) 19:09.40.

Walz, LaTour, and Connor, along with LaCour, also all competed in the 4x400m relay for UD's lone point for the meet. Walz ran in place of Cantu and LaTour ran in place of injured Max Crowder (La Marque, Texas).

Logan Byrum (Kingsport, Calif.) rounded out the team for the day competing in javelin and throwing a distance 31.52 (103'5").
