Del Curto named SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week

DOMINIC DEL CURTO OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior on the men's track and field team, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning October 2, 2017.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Del Curto is a politics major with a concentration in business. He is involved within his department as President of the Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS), which is an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit, membership organization dedicated to promoting constructive debate on basic principles and contemporary issues in foreign, economic, and national security policy. The AHS mission is to build a national network of outstanding students, faculty, and professionals, and sponsor debates at colleges and universities, as well as in major cities, and provide other opportunities for their members to flourish intellectually, professionally, and personally. There are members on 50 campuses, as well as in Miami, New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, DC, are united by basic convictions about the United States and its role in the world.

Del Curto also is a fellow of the American Public Philosophy Institute (APPI). Undergraduate fellows are good students who are interested in broad political, social, and cultural issues facing our nation (and the world), and might find the APPI's mission and activities interesting. Some of these activities include: Help to promote APPI speakers and other activities, participate in such events, and attend some special events organized for them (i.e. special smaller sessions with speakers we bring to campus or special classes we hold for them).

In addition to his involvement on UD's campus, Del Curto is a tutor with Reading Partners for the second year. The community organization works with under-resourced schools in geographic centers around the country. The one-on-one tutoring model is proven to raise students' reading proficiency.

Del Curto has lettered three years for the track and field program. He participates in short distance events and hurdles for the Crusaders. Del Curto was a member of the quartet that shattered the 4x100 Meter Relay program record in the final three competitions in 2016. This includes the current standing record 44:05 at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Invitational. Last spring, Del Curto was part of the first ever 1600 Meter Sprint Medley Relay at the TLU Bulldog Relays.
