Pirates Pull Away Late to Defeat Crusaders

October 21, 2023

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team lost their conference match against Southwestern UNiversity 6-1 on Friday.  They fall to 1-10-3 on the year and 0-5-1 in conference play.

The Pirates looked the better side for much of the match, outshooting the Crusaders 18-3.  Ashton Bynum opened the scoring with his second goal of the season in the 14th minute, and Raghav Sharma made it 2-0 in the 35th minute.

Braylon Lee pulled one back for UD with a candidate for goal of the season, firing a laser beam into the top right corner of the goal from a free kick outside the top left corner of the 18 yard box, nearly 30 yards out.

That was the high point of the match for the Crusaders, as the Pirates made it a 4-1 game after 64 minutes of play.  Things went from bad to worse when Jaiden Languilli was shown a contentious straight red in the 66th minute on a challenge that certainly warranted a whistle, but many questioned the player being sent off.

From there, the Pirates piled on two more goals in the final 10 minutes as the shorthanded Crusaders were unable to record a shot in the second half.
