Men's Soccer Falls to St. Thomas

October 15, 2023

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team lost their conference match against the University of St. Thomas (TX) 6-1 on Sunday.  They fall to 1-9-3 on the year and 0-4-1 in conference play.

The Celts were the dominant force from the first whistle, but the Crusaders did well to stave off their attack in the early minutes of the half.  St. Thomas netted their first goal in the 18th minute, then doubled their lead eight minutes later.  The Crusaders were mere seconds from going into halftime down 2-0, but the Celts scored with 15 seconds left in the half to make it a much more daunting 3-0 at the half.

Barely two minutes into the second half St. Thomas went up 4-0 after Caden Esquivel mishandled a shot from outside the box.  The young freshman keeper quickly bounced back and made a handful of world class saves throughout the second half; Uday Agarwal also had a number of highlight reel saves in the first half.

The Crusaders managed to net a consolation goal in the 75th minute on a counterattack that was sparked by a devasting tackle from Fik Kuteyi in his defensive third.  After two blocked shots in the box, Roman Campos found the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game.

The Celts responded with a goal 30 seconds after conceding, then added the sixth in the 86th minute to cap off the win.
