Men's Soccer Earns Hard Fought Draw on the Road

October 8, 2023

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team tied their conference match against Schreiner University 1-1 on Sunday.  They are now 1-7-3 on the year and 0-2-1 in conference play.

The Crusaders wasted no time in getting themselves on the board, as Antonio Gachiniero assisted Jaden Smith for UD's fastest goal of the season, taking a 1-0 lead after just four and a half minutes.  Dallas had two chances to double their lead over the next 10 muntes, but shots by Gachiniero and Victor Salvo both sailed over the crossbar.

Schreiner kept pushing for the equalizer, but Uday Agarwal made a pair of saves in a 90 second span to maintain the 1-0 adavantage for the Crusaders.  The final 10 minutes of the half were tight and physical; Schreiner began to rack up the fouls, perhaps as their frustration with their lack of an end product began to take hold.  But Dallas held firm to go into halftime with their lead intact.

Dallas dominated the early minutes of the second half offensively, but couldn't add to their lead.  The Mountaineers took advantage and leveled the score with a goal by Zaaron Gonzalez in the 65th minute, sparking a frantic final 25 minutes of play as both teams pushed desperately for the winner.  Despite a tense final 10 minutes and last gasp effort by the Crusaders, neither team would emerge victorious as the game ended 1-1.
