Men's Soccer Battle Sul Ross to a Draw Down a Man

September 23, 2023

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team played their final non-conference match of the season against Sul Ross State on Friday night.  They battled the Lobos to a 1-1 draw to improve to 1-5-2 on the year.

Sul Ross were patient on the ball and dominant in possession for nearly the entire match, but were constant threats on the counterattack.  They had what were arguably the best two chances of the first half in the span of 30 seconds.  Jaiden Languilli drilled a low shot towards the bottom left corner, forcing a save from Jesus Grajeda, and the rebound came right to Evan Corsiglia whose follow-up attempt went just wide of the goal.

The match was turned on its head at the stroke of halftime when Sebastian Coleman was given a straight red for bringing down the attacker as the last defender.  The ensuing free kick from just outside the box nestled safely in the arms of Uday Agarwal without too much trouble.

Against all odds, Dallas opened the scoring in the second half, once again on a quick counter.  Andre Brkic and Victor Salvo combined down the field, with Brkic finding Salvo at the top of the box for a cool finish into the top corner.

Though the Lobos continued to dominate the play, the Dallas defense stood firm and truly seemed as though they could hold on for the win.  But Sul Ross finally found their shooting boots and netted the equalizer in the 73rd minute.  And were it not for some desperate defending and heroic saves by Agarwal, the Lobos surely would have been the victors.
