Men's Soccer Drops Tight Match to Southwestern in Season Finale

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team played Southwestern University in their final match of the 2022 season on Sunday.  They lost to the Pirates 2-1 to end the season 3-12-2 and 0-8 in conference.

The Pirates were the better side in attack during the first half, netting their first goal in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  Despite falling behind, Dallas battled hard defensively to keep the game close and would level the game at the stroke of half time thanks to a goal scored from the penalty spot by Ben Utz.

Southwestern came right back out in the second half and scored the go-ahead goal less than two minutes into the half.  Once again, the Crusaders stood firm and even managed to mount an attack of their own.  The final 10 minutes was a flurry, with Southwestern searching for the dagger and Dallas creating more than a few chances for the equalizer.  In the end, neither team would find the back of the net again, as the Pirates held off the late push by Dallas to secure the 2-1 win.

Before the start of the match, the Crusaders celebrated three seniors who played in their final match for UD: JC Salinas, Carlo Scarmardo, and Jonathan Coxon.

From everyone at UD Athletics, thank you for all you have done!  We look forward to seeing what your futures have in store.
