Marcello's Stellar Strike Lifts Crusaders Past Sul Ross

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team won their non-conference match with Sul Ross State 2-1 on Thursday. They improve to 3-9-2 on the season.

It was a back and forth match from start to finish, with the two sides trading blows but neither able to find the finishing touch. A flash of brilliance by Enzo Marcello in the 35th minute changed that. On a ball that was only half cleared from a corner kick, Marcello beat three defenders with one move, turned, and fired from 30 yards out. His shot curled away from the outstretched keeper to back post, slamming off the woodwork and in to give Dallas the 1-0 lead.

The Crusaders doubled their lead with a well worked team goal in the 54th minute. Victor Salvo found Alex Melgoza through down the right side of the 18 yard box, and Melgoza played a perfect ball to Brian Rusch who was able to guide it home easily on the back post from six yards out.

The Lobos halved the deficit just seven minutes later, but would not be able to level the game despite a hard fought 30 minutes. The Crusaders were able to hold on for the win.
