Crusaders Drop Season Finale to Centenary

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team lost their final match of the regular season 6-1 to Centenary College.

The game started off even enough, but things took a turn for the worse for the Crusaders in the 13th minute.  After an excellent double-save by Goncalo Pernas, captain Brady McNamara, playing in his final collegiate match for the Crusaders, swooped in to aid his keeper and block the third shot coming.  Unfortunately, the shot hit his outstretched arm, and as the final man denying a clear scoring opportunity, the referee was given no choice but to show McNamara a straight red.  His heroics were not in vain, however, as Pernas returned the favor by stopping the ensuing penalty kick, keeping it 0-0 for a while longer.

Centenary made the most of the man advantage eventually, netting first in the 29th minute, then again in the 32nd minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.  The Gents added a third goal in the 55th minute, but the Crusaders pulled one back when Chase Reynolds scored off a corner kick in the 63rd minute, the game still not quite out of reach.  But as time wore on and the situation grew more desperate, the Crusaders had no choice but to throw numbers forward, leaving gaps in behind.  The Gents would add three more goals in the final 15 minutes to win the game by a comfortable 6-1 margin.

The Crusaders finish the season with a 5-10-0 overall record, and a 2-8-0 record in conference play.
