Men's Soccer Defeated by St. Thomas

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team lost their conference mathcup with St. Thomas 5-1, falling to 5-9 overall on the year.

It was an uphill battle early on for the Crusaders, as St. Thomas largely bossed the proceedings.  The Celts were up 2-0 after goals in quick succession, both  of them in the 18th minute.  After 25 minutes, the Celts made it 3-0 as Daniel Castro scored his second goal of the day.  Jose Martinez pulled one back for UD from a penlaty kick in the 33rd minute, but St. Thomas pulled it right back on a penalty kick of their own in the 42nd minute.

The alread injury ridden Crusaders suffered more damage, with Chase Reynolds and Jose Salinas-Arreola both forced to leave the match early with injuries.  Even with their hamstrung lineup, the Crusaders were laregely able to shut down the Celts in the second half and continued to pose an attacking threat on the counter.  The second half would have been fought to a stalemate had the Celts not been awarded their second penalty kick of the game, putting the match out of reach for UD.
